Bronze Bust of the Composer
Striking large bronze bust of the great composer with a stern expression, as sculpted by the masterful French artist who was winner of the
Grand
prix de Rome
for sculpture in 1912
.  Fine condition, 13.75 inches tall (35 cm.).
Born in Nantes, the artist studied at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts
de Paris from 1904, working under
Louis-Ernest Barrias
and
Jules Coutan
. Following his Prix de Rome prize of 1912, he worked at the
Villa Médicis
in 1913 and 1914 and after the war, opened a studio in Paris. He died tragically young of appendicitis in August, 1923 and is buried at the cemetery of
Boulogne-Billancourt, where his grave is adorned with one of his own works. A road named in his honor, rue Siméon-Foucault
, has existed since 1931 in Nantes, the city of his birth.
